Will Your Litter Box Fit in an Enclosure? A 6-Number Check

Your tray may fit the cabinet floor and still fail the door or your cat. Compare six real measurements, then check access, cleaning and air before buying.

The two-object check

Will this tray fit inside that cabinet?

Use the tray's widest outside dimensions and the specific cabinet's unobstructed inside dimensions. A paper fit is not a purchase recommendation.

Read the measuring worksheet and caveats

The interactive check is unavailable. Use the measuring worksheet below.

A cabinet can fit your litter box on paper and still fail your cat. The outside furniture dimensions tell you where it fits in your room; they do not tell you what fits inside. Start with the tray you already use. Measure its widest outside points and compare them with the clear inside space of one specific cabinet. Then check the door, cleaning route, air and your cat's willingness to use it.

This is a six-number check, not a “best enclosure” ranking or a fit guarantee. If the seller omits the cabinet's clear interior dimensions, the result is unknown until you ask. You do not need an account, email or BTH product to use this guide.

Will the tray clear the cabinet? A paper worksheet

Use inches for all six measurements or centimeters for all six. Do not mix them. Measure a real tray or use a model-specific manufacturer drawing; do not substitute a generic “XL” label. For the cabinet, look for the unobstructed interior after assembly, including any divider, hinge or liner.

  1. Tray outside length: ______
  2. Tray outside width: ______
  3. Tray outside height: ______
  4. Cabinet clear inside length: ______
  5. Cabinet clear inside depth: ______
  6. Cabinet clear inside height: ______

Include the tray's flared rim, handles or splash guard in its outside measurements. A tapered cabinet's narrowest obstruction matters more than its widest empty spot. If a number is absent or the maker has given only furniture exterior dimensions, write “unknown” rather than zero.

AI-generated editorial illustration of two separate measurements—not a measured product, proof that the tray fits, or evidence your cat will accept an enclosure. Use your own tray and the exact cabinet's clear interior dimensions.

Try both upright directions

  1. Direction A: cabinet inside length minus tray outside length = ______; cabinet inside depth minus tray outside width = ______.
  2. Direction B, tray turned 90°: cabinet inside length minus tray outside width = ______; cabinet inside depth minus tray outside length = ______.
  3. Height: cabinet clear inside height minus tray outside height = ______.

If either floor direction has two non-negative differences and the height difference is non-negative, that orientation clears these entered dimensions on paper. A negative difference rules out that upright orientation. Zero spare room is a warning, not a “perfect fit.” This arithmetic does not establish that the tray passes through a door, that a cat can turn and dig, or that the cabinet stays usable after cleaning.

Breeze XL and the Azi cabinet: a paper check, not a fit verdict

If you already have a Purina Tidy Cats Breeze XL and are considering the Tucker Murphy Pet Azi enclosure, Wayfair SKU W008738456 (21″ H × 30.2″ W × 21.2″ D version), here is what the published measurements actually establish. On a Petco product Q&A, a reply labeled Purina gives the XL system as 27.5″ wide × 18.5″ deep × 13.7″ high. Wayfair's Azi listing gives a 28.5″ W × 20″ D × 18.1″ H overall interior for this size. Both sources were checked September 28, 2026; these are their published numbers, not BTH measurements.

The paper result: Aligning the long sides leaves 1″ length, 1.5″ depth and 4.4″ height spare (28.5 − 27.5; 20 − 18.5; 18.1 − 13.7). That is a narrow nominal clearance, not proof the assembled cabinet accepts the tray. Confirm that the listing's “overall interior” applies to the unobstructed compartment with the divider in your chosen position, and measure the tray's widest actual rim or handles.

The unresolved purchase check: Wayfair also lists a 9.4″ W × 12.4″ H “Door” dimension, but does not identify it as the clear front service-door or top-opening size. These sources do not establish whether the full tray can be inserted and removed for cleaning through those service openings, or whether your cat will use the enclosure. Ask the seller for the clear service-opening width and height, the narrowest inside space after assembly, and the divider configuration before buying. If you cannot confirm those, the practical fit remains unknown. This is an unpaid measurement example, not a recommendation or hands-on test.

Four checks the worksheet cannot do for you

  1. Removal and cleaning: Open the service door or lid as it will sit in your home. Can you pull the full tray out without tilting it? Are corners and seams reachable for routine cleaning? A cabinet that makes scooping harder can undo the convenience it promised.
  2. The cat's route: Check the actual entrance, threshold and path in and out. A senior cat or one with mobility difficulty may need a different entry. Keep a familiar usable tray available while changing the setup; do not force the cat into a cabinet to prove it works.
  3. Room to turn and dig: A tray can physically fit in furniture but still offer too little usable space for the cat. The Ohio State Indoor Pet Initiative says the litter box should allow the cat to stand and turn, notes that many cats prefer large uncovered boxes, and warns that covered boxes concentrate odors. This guide's six-number subtraction does not assess those needs.
  4. Air, location and choice: Do not assume hiding the box removes odor or improves acceptance. Cat Friendly Homes recommends considering location, size, type and management together; preferences vary. Watch whether your own cat actually uses the arrangement. If toileting changes suddenly, speak with a veterinarian instead of diagnosing it from furniture.

Copy this before buying

“For the exact enclosure model and configuration ______, what are the clear inside length × depth × height after assembly, with dividers, hinges and liners in place? What are the clear service-door opening dimensions, and can a tray measuring ______ outside be removed upright? Please send the current diagram or manual.”

Keep the reply with the model link and the date checked. If the answer is only “fits most litter boxes,” the comparison is still incomplete. If you are choosing the tray first rather than checking one you own, use BTH's separate large-cat litter-box comparison for the tray-selection task; do not treat that page's exterior examples as cabinet-fit proof.

What this guide can and cannot establish

BoxToHeart organized manufacturer-stated dimensions and the linked feline-care guidance into a decision aid. We have not measured or tested the example cabinet, observed your cat, or verified every seller variant. The linked experts and retailers have not reviewed or endorsed this guide. No paid placement or affiliate recommendation is involved. The worksheet checks entered numbers only; it is not veterinary advice, a product ranking or a promise that an enclosed setup is right for your cat.
